“Do not separate yourself from the community.”  —  Pirke Avot 2:5

Jewish Housing and Programming (J-HAP) is focused on creating independent, affordable, service-enriched housing for adults with developmental disabilities.  While services and programs will be offered within the context of a Jewish environment, individuals of all faiths are welcome and will be supported equally via person centered planning designed to ensure residents can choose their own array of services and service providers to meet their needs.

What does the “J” in J-HAP mean?

“Do not look at the container, but what is in it.” — Pirke Avot 4:27

At J-HAP, the “Jewish” part of our name represents that:

1) Jewish programming will be made available to residents including:

  • Religious celebrations
  • Lifecycle events – bar/bat mitzvahs, weddings, etc.
  • Music and Education
  • Rabbis on-site for programs and services in the Sanctuary
  • Collaborative events with JFCS, Sabes JCC, Sholom Alliance, local synagogues and other Jewish organizations

2) J-HAP residential and program space will incorporate specific Jewish  design elements including:

  • Kosher kitchen and food service (possible kosher catering)
  • Sanctuary for prayer, life cycle events and religious gatherings
  • Mezzuzot in doorways
  • Library with Jewish texts and fiction
  • Artwork and music connected to Jewish themes and artists
  • Donor wall highlighting our community’s commitment

3) Other general/environmental elements with a Jewish influence include:

  • Collaboration with Jewish Family and Children’s Services to provide case management with a Jewish perspective
  • Postings around building highlighting Jewish community events
  • Space available for rental to be used by Jewish and secular groups and families

“Behold how good and pleasant it is when all people live together as one.” – Psalm 133
